I wasn’t really around for Richard Nixon’s Watergate flameout, but was there as much enmity toward the man as there now is toward President Bush, or was he generally regarded as more of a sad, pathetic bastard who’d merely written his own political obituary, and in the process inadvertently exposed the country to his own darkly paranoid worldview?

Largely because of the war in Iraq, of course, there’s no such oh-it’s-just-politics pass for Bush, whose current 25-30 percent approval ratings still seem kind of high to me, and have for most of his second term. After all, Bush’s impending exit has already been touted in celebratory T-shirts that have gained popularity as much more than just some whimsical Blue State item. He’s routinely booed and heckled in public on the few occasions he’s not trotted out before a scrubbed audience. Anti-smear email campaigns are used, and regularly falsely attributed to celebrities, to try to prop up his administration as something other than the flaming trainwreck of a disaster that it is. And now graffiti — like the above item, and an entire series of professionally stenciled put-downs here in Los Angeles and in other big cities — openly scorns the guy. January 20, 2009, indeed…
Yeah 30 percent support is still surprising.Bush definitely sucks.
I hope the new president brings the country to senses.
For heavens sake please stop fighting wars and spreading propaganda and that too in the name of democracy.
The great thing about AlGore’s Interweb is that anybody can post a bankrupt opinion like the one above and others will circle around it accepting it as truth. This is all the fault of the public education system and teachers’ unions.
In response to Leonard:
How you can call any negative opinion based on fact a bankrupt theory, when it pertains to a president that has been proven to have lied to his country for a false pretense for war (ie weapons of mass destruction) is beyond all reason and understanding. I think what you mean to say is the fact that a man like Bush has been elected president, for not 1 but 2 terms in office, is the failing of the entire American (not just public) education system.
Pro bush cronies had their chance in the limelight, bush has time and time again done nothing but humiliate not only his supporters but America as a whole. It is now the turn of reason to take center stage and hold up those who are accountable.
Funny I didn’t have a GASP public school education and I think the same way.
but a private education doesn’t add up to much since Bush had one of the best educations money can buy and HE’S DUMBER THAN DIRT.
Don’t forget Hurricane Katrina. For 5 days the president couldn’t be bothered to respond to the worst natural disaster in U.S history. He sat around at his ranch and went to two fundraisers in two different states all while Louisiana and Alabama residents suffered. Finally he flew by and waved to everyone stuck in hellish conditions. He is the worst president in history
All you Bush bashers are just simple minded dolts who have jumped on the anti-Bush band wagon. Grow up and look at the world for what it is, not what it’s trendy to believe. Bush has made mistakes, so has every president in history.
Funny when you have Anonymous, that already has a red flag of no credibility. You defending that idiot president shows the ignorance and uninformed simpleton you are. Because of Bush lying to the country and the world, there are people dying. Innocent Iraqis who have had their lives turned upside down while ignorant dunces like you shrug and say “that’s life”. Well I hope you have the misfortunes that these people have had moron. Next time have a cogent argument before you open that hole beneath your snout. Bush has made more than “mistakes” and his “mistakes” have led to the suffering and death of not only the people of Iraq but our military families here. Know your subject before you talk crap for brains, “anonymous”.
It’s amazing how similar Bush is to Nixon, until you notice that Bush hired many of the same people that Nixon used, Chaney is the best example.
The only difference is that Bush “is not a crook.” according to HIS justice department LOL.
It would be a great and amazing thing if the democrats had the guts to stand up to the corrupt and bullying Republican administration, and investigate Bush like he deserves to be… the stuff that WOULD come out would be amazing, I guarantee it.
