About

An award-winning entertainment journalist who has contributed to dozens of international and domestic publications both as a freelancer and through a variety of masthead tenures, Brent Simon is a longtime member and former three-term president of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.

His book The Dreamer’s Path: Twin Peaks and David Lynch the Actor approaches the legendary filmmaker from a distinctive angle, unpacking Lynch’s surprisingly lengthy list of credits as an on-screen performer, and by extension where and how this unique and heretofore unexplored part of his enormous creative output intersects with his broader embrace of “the art life.” Both fun and serious, the tome is an exhaustive deep dive (built around more than 70 interviews, from Isabella Rossellini and Louis C.K. to Seth Green and Flying Lotus, plus relevant excerpts from several of the author’s own in-depth interviews with Lynch over the years) that connects some valuable dots about the full scope of how Lynch viewed creativity.

A 2024 National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Award finalist for Best Film Critic, Simon was also honored in 2017 with the International Media Award at the 54th annual ICG Publicists Awards. Among the many publications to which he has contributed bylines are Variety, Screen International, A.V. Club, Vulture, Newsweek Japan, Paste Magazine, Korean Film Magazine, Entertainment Today, Los Angeles Daily News, Zeitgeist, Moviefone, IGN, Rotten Tomatoes, and H Magazine.
