Night at the Museum

Ben Stiller has fashioned his big screen career out of being physically debased, so it's no surprise that the trailer and TV ads for his latest film find him being slapped about by a monkey, and returning serve as good as he gets. Certain audiences, though, may empathize unduly with that impish little simian. Night at the Museum isn't awful, no, but there's little about it that feels lasting. Its narrative is pitched toward adolescent fantasy and silly, frequently obvious shenanigans to a hearty degree, but with no sort of consistent inner logic (a la something like Home Alone, let's say) the movie tilts toward fleeting entertainment, with no inherent replay value or strongly felt recollection.
