For all the laudatory acclaim justly being heaped on Johnny Depp for his invention of the character of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean films (or the first one at least — let's not talk about the distended and soulless affair that was Dead Man's Chest), one must not forget his canon of misbegotten, period piece twaddle, films like The Man Who Cried and Chocolat.
